Our Philosophy

We do not treat community health as a series of one-off events. We build continuous programmes that connect people to the health system, and keep them connected.

WHO WE ARE

Building healthier communities together

St Petronella Health Care Initiative (PHCI) is a registered private, not-for-profit community-based organization operating in Mukono Municipality, Mukono District, Uganda.

Established in 2025, PHCI was founded in response to persistent barriers to quality and affordable health services, limited access to health information, preventable diseases, mental health challenges, inadequate water and sanitation services, and gaps in community-level disease prevention and referral systems.

We believe that good health is fundamental to human dignity, household stability, education, economic productivity and sustainable community development.

Seven connected programme areas: community health; disease prevention; maternal, child and adolescent health; mental health and psychosocial wellbeing; non-communicable diseases; water, sanitation and hygiene; and menstrual health and hygiene. They are delivered together in the same communities, because health problems rarely arrive one at a time.

We work through existing local structures — VHTs, CHEWs, schools, health facilities and community leaders — and we involve communities in identifying problems, designing solutions and assessing results, rather than delivering programmes to them.
PHCI welcomes collaboration with government institutions, health facilities, NGOs, foundations, development partners, schools, universities and private-sector organisations across community health delivery, WASH, training, research and resource mobilisation.
